Youth Discussion: Success in a Christian

In Discussion Starters, Spiritual Things, Youth Programming by KevLeave a Comment

What success is in a Christ follower can be confusing to a young person. Some may believe that is pertains to money, career, and material things. However, success for a Christian should be representing Christ and what He wants us to do. Christian success is not just a life goal, but a daily goal. Encourage the youth to trust in Jesus to overcome sin and represent Him in all they do.

  • Do you know anyone who is very successful at what they do? Why do you think that is so?
  • Does success look like a perfect life?
  • Could someone who is successful struggle with life?
  • If you never talk about Christ, would your life be considered a success?
  • In what ways has God blessed you with success?
  • What would be the best success story for your church?
  • What would be your best success story for your family?
  • What would be your best success story for your life?

Verses to encourage a successful daily walk in Christ.

  • 1 Peter 2:11-12 (NKJV) “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.”
  • Romans 12:2 (NKJV) “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
  • Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV) “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
  • 1 John 4:16, 19 (NKJV) “And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” “We love Him because He first loved us.”
  • Luke 6:27-28 (NKJV) “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.”

Tips on Making your Christian Life a success:

  1. Take time out with God without any other distractions
  2. Take time to rest from this world on the Sabbath. God made this day at creation for us because He knew we needed it.
  3. Change your attitude to gratitude.
    • God sustains us with His grace and His breath. Be thankful for it.
    • When we practice being grateful, we will see the many great things around us and in other people.
  4. Focus on the cross and Jesus did for you.
    • When our eyes are on Him, it is hard to be tempted or persuaded into sin.
    • He becomes our strength for each day.
  5. He must increase, and I must decrease. These words from John the Baptist ring true for us today. We are living in a self-serving, self-seeking society and the world is teaching us to be all about ourselves. But Christ showed us that we should be about others.
  6. Give to God and be grateful for it.
    • Tithing is a blessing that cannot be described in simple words. It is an experience that you have to have for yourself. God says, “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10
    • Tithing your time is equally important. God gave us gifts to be used so use them. (Parable of the talents – Matthew 25).
